Insurance for solar and battery installation contractors
We work with installers, electrical contractors, battery integrators, operations and maintenance providers, and commercial EV charging contractors. We focus on commercial and business-to-business work rather than domestic household installation.
Business activities insurers may need to understand
- Rooftop solar installation, upgrade and maintenance
- Commercial battery energy storage and control systems
- Electrical works, commissioning and testing
- Subcontractor, labour hire and project work
- Supply or import of panels, inverters, batteries and charging equipment
- Design, specification, monitoring or energy performance services
Cover options we can discuss
Public and products liability for third-party injury or property damage allegations; contract works for eligible work in progress; and professional indemnity where the business provides design, consulting or other professional services. Depending on the business, we can also review commercial property, tools and equipment, motor fleet, cyber, management liability and workers compensation arrangements.
Cover is not automatic for every activity or project. Insurers consider the work performed, heights, testing and commissioning, products supplied, subcontracting, turnover, claims and project values. Policy terms, exclusions, limits and deductibles apply.
Questions we ask about installer insurance
Does public liability cover defective workmanship?
Policies differ. Liability cover generally responds to covered third-party claims, subject to its wording; rectification of the insured’s own defective work may be treated differently or excluded.
Can one policy cover installation and products supplied?
Some insurers consider both, but the activities and product types must be disclosed and accepted. We can review how the proposed policy describes them.
Can you arrange cover for battery and EV charging work?
We can approach insurers where the activities fit their underwriting appetite. Acceptance and terms depend on underwriting.
